SAT Exam - Eligibility Guide

The SAT exam is a standardised test, widely used for college admissions in the United States and other countries. It is an important exam for students who want to pursue higher studies abroad. Universities accept the SAT in more than 85 countries worldwide. Some countries that accept SAT scores include the United States, India, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, and Australia. The United States tops the list of countries that accept SAT scores, with more than 4,000 participating universities. Great Britain is second with 125 universities, followed by India, Canada, Japan, Australia, Austria, Mexico and others.

By scoring well on the SAT, candidates can boost their chances of acceptance into their desired institutions. Additionally, many schools offer SAT scholarship money to students based on their SAT results and scores. This can help students to finance their education and achieve their study abroad goals. The SAT is a valuable tool for students who want to study abroad and achieve their academic and career aspirations.

In terms of eligibility criteria for international students, the College Board, which administers the SAT, has not specified any particular eligibility criteria for appearing in the exam. International students can register and apply on the College Board website if they intend to take the SAT exam for undergraduate courses. On the College Board website, students must be 13 or older to register. However, there is no fixed maximum or minimum age criteria in SAT exam eligibility for students. To pursue entrance to undergraduate programs, students must have completed high school, and only then would SAT scores be considered valid. The biggest turnout for the SAT tests was among students between the ages of 17 and 19. Additionally, yearly SAT tests are taken by a considerable number of students in grades XI and XII.

Hence, it is up to the students when they want to appear for the exam. Usually, students who have completed their school-level education appear for the SAT exam. However, there are no fixed criteria for SAT eligibility, but there are a few parameters that candidates must follow before appearing for the test.

SAT Exam Eligibility Criteria - Photo

The SAT exam has specific photo requirements for all test-takers, including international students. According to the College Board, the organisation that administers the SAT, you must upload a photo as part of the SAT registration process. Test centre staff will compare the photo to your photo ID on test day to ensure security. If the photo you upload doesn’t meet the listed requirements, you won’t be allowed to test.

Here are some of the requirements for the photo:

  • The photo must be in one of these file formats: .jpg, .gif, or .png.
  • You should be easy to recognise in the photo.
  • You should be the only one in the picture.
  • It should be a head-and-shoulders view, with the entire face, eyes, and hair visible. (Head coverings worn for religious purposes are okay.).
  • The photo should be in focus and there should be no dark spots or shadows.
  • Black-and-white photos are acceptable.

SAT Exam Eligibility - Students with Disabilities

A valid passport is the primary identification document required for taking the PTE exam. This requirement ensures the accurate verification of the candidate's identity.

If you are a citizen of the Philippines taking the test in the Philippines and do not have a valid passport, you can present a valid, non-expired government-issued National ID, provided it contains your name in Roman characters, date of birth, signature, and photograph. If a single piece of ID does not contain all four elements, a second piece containing the missing element(s) must also be provided.

Acceptable government-issued IDs for Filipinos taking the PTE test in the Philippines include a Government-issued driver’s license, Military identification card, National identification card, Social Security System ID, Unified Multi-Purpose ID, and Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID.

This criterion is crucial for maintaining the security and integrity of the exam. It helps in preventing fraudulent activities and ensures that the candidate who registers for the test is the one who appears for it. Proper identification is key in maintaining the standard and credibility of the PTE as an internationally recognized test.

Number of Attempts for the SAT Exam

Firstly, it's important to note that the College Board, which administers the SAT, does not impose a strict limit on the number of times a student can take the test. This flexibility is designed to give students ample opportunity to achieve their desired score. However, while there's no official cap on SAT exam attempts, it's advisable to plan strategically.

Why? Because each attempt requires preparation, time, and financial resources. Moreover, while colleges typically consider the highest score out of all your attempts, some might review all your scores. Therefore, it's essential to prepare thoroughly for each SAT exam attempt to show a consistent and strong academic ability.

Eligibility for SAT Fee Waiver

International students not in the United States or its territories and US citizens living abroad are unfortunately not eligible for an SAT Fee Waiver. The SAT Fee Waiver is primarily available to low-income 11th and 12th-grade students in the U.S. or U.S. territories and U.S. citizens living outside the country.

However, some colleges and universities offer fee waivers or reductions for international students. It's worth contacting the schools' admissions offices you're interested in to see if they offer any assistance. Additionally, some non-profit organisations or educational institutions in your home country might offer financial aid or scholarships that could help cover the cost of the SAT.
